INTERVIEW ESSENTIALS
Our recruiters have a few helpful tips for any job seeker...
Show Up On Time
Some things are unpredictable, traffic, weather etc., but you can still plan ahead. Have an alternate route in mind. Coming late to an interview is a bad way to start. Five to Fifteen minutes early is good; one hour early is inconsiderate. Remember, first impressions are forever. You want your interviewer to remember the positives about your interview, not the fact that you didn’t show up on time.
Dress To Get The Job
Wow, I could tell you some stories…so don’t be one of them. You can never over dress for a job (unless you confused the club or the prom with the interview). It shows you made an effort; that you put some thought into how you wanted this day to go. Be aware of perfumes and colognes on an interview. Just because you think it smells good, doesn’t mean your interviewer does. You should be practical from your earrings to your shoes. On occasion, you may have to walk a block to the hospital and you don’t want to think about the pain in your feet (because you wore your stylish but uncomfortable heels) when meeting a manager for the first time. Again, you want the interviewer to be focused on you and your skills, not distracted by what you are wearing.
Smile
Can’t really say more than that. Be open and receptive. If you’re in a bad mood, it will show.
Be Prepared
Know something about the organization, the industry. Show that you’ve seen the website. Always bring a hard copy of a resume even if the interviewer does not request it. Don’t forget to bring any certifications or licenses that qualify you for the position that you are interviewing for. It is better to have something not wanted than not to have something needed.
Ask Questions
Yes, during the interview. It shows that you are interested in the position and the organization.
Talk, Talk, Talk
This may sound trite, but be prepared to answer questions. Yes, questions. Yes, during the interview. Interviews are really all about you. Who you are, what you bring to the organization. If you don’t talk and give detailed answers to our questions, it’s hard to get to know you, thus it’s difficult to determine if you are a good fit for this organization.
Follow-Up
Send an email or post card, it isn’t necessary but it’s a nice touch. Please don’t call and harass. Trust that we will follow up with you regarding the next steps.
