SUMMER TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Summer Teen Volunteer Program: A Win-Win Accomplishment For All
Saint Anthony Hospital introduced a successful Summer Teen Volunteer Program this past July. Sixteen teens participated, age 15-19, nine of whom were the children of employees.
“ We created this opportunity particularly for our associates,” says Guy A. Medaglia, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Participating in volunteer activities helps our associates know their children are safe, busy and getting experience that will help prepare them for the world of work.”
Volunteer/service work is not only required by many high schools, it’s also important when applying for college. Especially in this year of economic difficulties, when teen unemployment was high, the opportunity to “give back” by volunteering at Saint Anthony Hospital was appreciated by the teens – and their families.
The hospital’s Volunteer Department provided an orientation for the teens, and each was trained according to the needs of the department for which he or she volunteered. During their time at the hospital, the volunteers received informal coaching and encouragement in the form of three sessions: “Volunteer Now, Succeed Later “ with Saint Anthony Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Guy A. Medaglia; “The College Transition” with Francesca Cabugason, Teen Volunteer Coordinator; and “Rock that Interview! “ with Rosemary Meganck, Director, Women’s and Children’s Services.
The program will operate again next summer. If you’re interested in having your child participate, contact Arlyn Ogbac, Director Dietary/Volunteer Services, in May or June 2010 at 773-484-1000, extension 4515.
