Hats Off To Them: First Class Of Graduates Completes School At Work Program

School At Work ProgramSpirits were bright in the chapel as Saint Anthony Hospital honored its first class of School at Work (SAW) graduates on August 13. Dressed in caps and gowns, the group of 18 celebrated the successful completion of a two-course, 32-week program that featured on-site instruction offered both before and after work. The happy grads received their diplomas at a ceremony attended by their family members, friends, mentors, and hospital leadership. A special luncheon followed in their honor.
 
Guest speakers at the ceremony included representatives of organizations who partnered with Saint Anthony Hospital in making SAW a meaningful reality for the Saint Anthony Hospital employees. Speakers included: Rosanna Marquez, President/CEO of the Eleanor Foundation; Lynn Fisher, founder/ CEO, Catalyst Learning; Sharon Denise Dixon, Alderman, 24th Ward, City of Chicago; Daisy Mitchell, Dean of Adult Education of Wright College; Patricia Bolivar, Director of Programs, Instituto Del Progreso Latino; and the Rev. Steve Spiller, Sr., Greater Galilee M.B. Church.

Throughout the ceremony, many participants spoke of the exceptional commitment to their SAW studies displayed by the associates, as well as their excitement about the opportunity to advance in their careers. All of the students have already been accepted to the City of Chicago’s Wright College. Their fields of study include: CAN, Billing/Coding, Radiology, X-Ray Technology, Radiology, and Nursing. Each of the students were mentored by a member of Saint Anthony Hospital’s leadership team, including: Michael Bergeron, Director, Environmental; Aileen Brooks, Vice President, Legal Services; James Ellexson, Manager, Human Resources; Rita Esquiliano, Director, Community Relations; Ken Fox, Manager, Human Resources; John Hennelly, Vice President, Ancillary Services; Antonia Hernandez, Manager, Marketing; Deb McGraw, Director, Emergency Room; Michelle Morgan, Manager, Human Resources; Deborah Morris, Director, Medical/Surgical; Arlyn Ogbac, Director, Dietary Services; Denisse Leon, Vice President, Physician Services; Sonya Terry, Director, Quality Assurance; and Dorian Wright, Director, Materials Management.

Pamela Jones, Workplace Development Manager, Human Resources Department, received special recognition from both hospital leadership and from many of the SAW graduations for her special devotion to making the debut SAW Program such a success.
